Special topics in Computer and information sciences, general.

Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge and or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student.

Prerequisite: Intermediate VB.Net or C#.Net. This 24 hour course will introduce you to database applications using VB.Net or C#.Net. You will learn how to create and work with the database objects in ADO.Net: connections, commands, DataAdapters, DataSets, DataSources and TableAdapters. You will review the basics of databases using SQL Server 2005. The DataSet object will be reviewed in detail. You will learn how to use the new ADO controls: DataGridView, FormView, etc. You will learn how to set up data access declaratively implementing DataBinding. You will learn how to handle exceptions and and how to work with XML representation of data.

Course Content:

  • Basics of working with databases in VB.Net and C#.Net.
  • Accessing data using ADO.NET command & connection objects
  • DataReader, DataAdapter, DataSource, TableAdapters, DataSets
  • FormView,DataGridView
  • Simple and complex DataBinding
  • ADO.NET exception handling
  • XML in ADO.NET
  • Crystal Reports
